Archibald Knox was born in the Isle of Man of Scottish parenthood. His designs were synonymous with British Art Nouveau and he is regarded as being a prominent influence in the Arts and Crafts movement. His Celtic designs and calligraphy are world famous and iconic in the Isle of Man. Today both his art work for Liberty & Co and his watercolours are highly sought after.

Title of Scholarship: The Archibald Knox Scholarship for Art and Design.

Nature of Scholarship: Travel Expenses.

Amount Awarded:  The sum of £3,000 to be distributed over three years equally as a travel bursary for educational purposes.

Awarding Body: The Archibald Knox Society.

The Committee; A committee would be set up to administer the Scholarship. Consisting of one member from each of the following organisations, Home Strategic, the Isle of Man College Art and Design Department, and the Archibald Knox Society. The committee will appoint a panel of three competent judges.The committee will draw up a contractual agreement to be signed by the incumbent and decide at the end of each year whether or not the criteria set has been achieved before  awarding the next payment. The committee will be the final arbitrator.

Who is Eligible: Students at the IOM College who have shown excellence in Art or Design and who have followed an accredited course and have been accepted at a recognised 3rd level College of Art (including the IOM College). The Scholarship we be awarded annually subject to the standard of excellence being  achieved and the conditions of the signed contract.

Number of Students Shortlisted:  Not more than five students to be shortlisted by the staff at Department of Art and Design, IOM College.

What 3rd level Colleges are acceptable? To be listed by the IOM College.

First Scholarship was awarded 22nd June 2012  at the IOM College.
